I’m mentoring a small group of artists through @mastrius.official! Mastrius is a Canadian company that created an amazing online community built around mentorship and connection — a place for artists at every stage to learn from one another and grow together 🌟
In my mentorship group, we’ll be exploring:
▪️ Layering charcoal with colourful water-based washes so each medium lifts the other up. This is my favourite combination to work in — the results feel almost magical, and I promise it’ll open the door to all kinds of mixed media exploration.
▪️ Troubleshooting the layering conflicts that come up in mixed media work, and building a plan that actually works for your supplies, surfaces, tools and mediums.
▪️ Understanding value, form and space — the quiet architecture behind convincing 3-D illusions on paper.
▪️ Finishing and protecting your final pieces so the work lasts.
▪️ Applying these techniques across whatever subjects call to you.
Get anytime access to my growing collection of zoom recorded classes and exclusive content. New items are added every month, from landscapes to animals, Master studies, drawing, painting and mixed media techniques!
Games are scheduled for the first Tuesday of each month for the rest of 2026
Dates: Tuesday Oct 6, Nov 3, Dec 1 from 6-7pm EST on ZOOM.
Registrants will be sent a ZOOM link to join.
Artropology is a card game that focuses on Principals and Elements of Design prompts to create a non-objective work of art in the spirit of play, and learning how to nurture your intuition and decision-making skills. Great fun for all levels - beginners and advanced artists!
The game session is one hour long. I’ll begin with a brief discussion on the use of the Elements of Art and Principles of Design.
You will need:
Art materials such as brushes, alternative mark-making tools (palette knives), water container, rags, paint palette, paint in different colours and neutrals (acrylics recommended), and/or mixed media (optional ie. soft pastels, oil pastels, coloured pencils, charcoal); and one painting surface of your choice (ie. 8”x10”).
This game can be played in any media, but there are challenges with each one! Please choose what you are most comfortable with - no need to struggle with media while trying to have fun :)
