Into the Woods

CA$150.00

Journey into the magical realms of your imagination! We'll be abstracting the enchanting beauty of the forest, using watercolour and dry media on beautiful wood surfaces. This isn't just a class; it's an exploration of how you see and feel the world around you, translated through the organic warmth and grain of wood.

You'll discover new ways to convey your artistic vision, inspired by nature and supported by intuitive methods. We'll dive into:

  • Abstracting from Nature's Inspiration: Learn to distill the essence of the forest, transforming natural forms into expressive, personal artwork.

  • Photo Referencing Tricks: Discover clever ways to use reference images as a springboard for creativity, not a limitation.

  • Dynamic Compositions: Create engaging and visually exciting layouts that draw the viewer into your woodland scenes.

  • Unconventional Tools & Brushwork: Experiment with various tools and expressive brushstrokes to add texture and character.

  • Colour Harmonies: Explore palettes that evoke the mood and magic of the forest.

  • Mixed Media Experimentation: Broaden your artistic vocabulary by combining transparent watercolours (or diluted acrylics) with versatile dry media like charcoal, pastels, or pencils.

  • Working with Wood Surfaces: Understand how to prepare and paint on wood, letting its natural beauty enhance your forest themes.

The Virtual Workshop Experience with Sharlena Wood

  • Each session begins with a welcome and overview. You will know exactly how the session will unfold and the objectives.

  • There will be a moderator in attendance for all classes, who will show you how to effectively use the Zoom platform at the start of the first session. The moderator will control the waiting room, keep track of questions and manage any video and audio controls/troubles with the least disturbance to the workshop.

  • The classes are interactive and paced for you to work along with step-by-step demonstrations, Q&A’s and help along the way.

  • Review and critique. At the end of each session, there will be time for questions and concerns. Students may choose if and how they want to share their work.

  • The workshop encourages sharing in a private Facebook Group (Sharlena Wood Art Group • Guest Artist: Monika Rosen) where you can upload your finished projects or in-progress homework, get feedback, and comment on your fellow classmates’ work. It’s a safe community space to share your work, and I offer comments on all work posted.
